Celebrity America is heartbroken after a tragic plane crash claimed the lives of seven beloved members of the Nelon family and their close friends — one of gospel music’s most cherished families. The small private plane went down in Wyoming on its way to Alaska, leaving behind a lasting legacy of faith, harmony, and hope that inspired generations.
According to early reports, the victims included pilot Larry and Melissa Haynie, family assistant Melanie Hodges, her daughter Amber and son-in-law Nathan Kistler, and gospel singers Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark — the heart of the award-winning group The Nelons. The only surviving member of the immediate family, Autumn Nelon Streetman, was not on the flight. In an emotional statement, she shared, “My heart is shattered… but I know God is still good. My family is with Him now, and that gives me peace.”
The group had been traveling to the Gaither Homecoming Cruise, a major gospel event where they were set to perform. Witnesses reported that the twin-engine plane appeared to experience mechanical trouble before descending and crashing into a remote Wyoming field. Despite quick emergency response, there were no survivors.
For more than forty years, The Nelons have been a cornerstone of Southern Gospel music. Founded by the late Rex Nelon, the family carried a message of hope and devotion through timeless songs like “Come Morning” and “I Shall Not Be Moved.” Jason and Kelly led the group with grace and unity, earning induction into the Gospel Music Association’s Hall of Fame in 2016.
Their performances were more than concerts — they were worship experiences that brought healing and comfort to thousands. Fans described the family as humble, kind, and deeply connected to their faith.
