Ambulance Overturns During Emergency Trip — Authorities Release New Details

DOUGHERTY COUNTY, Ga. — A terrifying scene unfolded early Saturday morning when a three-vehicle crash involving an ambulance left nine people injured, including a newborn baby, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

The accident happened just after 7 a.m. at the intersection of Pine Avenue and Monroe Street in Albany. Authorities say a Dougherty County EMS ambulance, which was transporting two patients and three medical staff members, collided with a 2017 Ford pickup truck. The impact caused the ambulance to flip onto its side, striking a 2023 Buick Encore that was passing through the intersection.

Within minutes, Albany Police and fire crews were on the scene, quickly joined by GSP investigators. The intersection was closed for several hours as emergency responders treated the injured and cleared debris.

Inside the ambulance were five people — two patients, including a newborn, and three EMS personnel. The Ford truck carried two occupants, while the Buick had two more. In total, nine people were transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where officials later confirmed that all were in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Photos taken at the scene showed the overturned ambulance surrounded by first responders, flashing lights, and emergency vehicles as paramedics worked to stabilize patients and ensure everyone’s safety.
