What was meant to be a routine flight from Oakland to Portland turned into a tense airborne emergency aboard Alaska Airlines Flight 2221. Shortly after takeoff, a male passenger suffered a severe mental health episode, becoming aggressive and attacking fellow travelers. Panic quickly spread through the cabin, turning an ordinary journey into a high-stakes situation.

Thanks to the calm, decisive actions of flight attendants and several alert passengers, the situation was brought under control. Seatbelt extenders were used as makeshift restraints to safely subdue the individual, preventing injuries and restoring order. Upon landing in Portland, local authorities took custody of the passenger for a mental health evaluation. Remarkably, no one on board was physically harmed.
