A Love Story Written in the Stars
I never expected to meet my soulmate on the metro, but that’s where Brian and I first crossed paths. It was late, nearly midnight, and the train was almost empty except for a few weary commuters. After a long shift at the hospital, I was just trying to stay awake when I noticed him across the aisle—completely absorbed in a worn copy of The Great Gatsby, his brow furrowed in concentration.
Something about the way he sat there, lost in the pages, caught my attention. His faded hoodie and well-loved sneakers suggested someone who valued comfort over appearances. I kept stealing glances until, finally, our eyes met. Embarrassed, I quickly looked away.
“Fitzgerald has that effect on people,” he said with a smile. “Makes you forget where you are.”
“I wouldn’t know,” I admitted. “Never read it.”
His eyes widened. “Never? You’re missing out. It’s a classic.”
“I guess I don’t have much time for reading these days,” I said, feeling a little self-conscious.
We didn’t exchange numbers that night. I thought it was just a pleasant moment with a stranger—until fate had other plans.
An Unexpected Hero
A week later, during the evening rush hour, I was standing in a packed train, holding onto the overhead rail, when I felt a sudden tug on my purse. Before I could react, someone had taken it and was pushing through the crowd toward the exit.
