A catastrophic fire ripped through Pamplona Alta in San Juan de Miraflores, Lima, late this week, leaving widespread destruction and forcing hundreds of residents to flee their homes. The blaze swept across the densely built hillside community—an area packed with tightly spaced, improvised structures—turning entire blocks into smoke-filled escape routes.

Early assessments indicate that more than 300 homes were damaged or destroyed, leaving families scrambling to save what little they could as flames spread from rooftop to rooftop.

Fire crews battled intense heat, difficult terrain, and narrow passageways that slowed response efforts. Despite these challenges, they managed to contain the blaze before it reached even more homes.

Possible Pyrotechnics Link Emerges

Investigators are now focusing on a key lead: an informal pyrotechnics workshop that may have sparked the fire. Videos circulating on social media show bright flashes and small detonations—signs consistent with fireworks igniting accidentally.

Authorities have not confirmed the cause, but the workshop theory has become the centerpiece of the ongoing investigation.
