Ambulance Overturns During Emergency Trip — Authorities Release New Details

Dougherty County EMS Director James Gibney expressed relief that the outcome wasn’t worse, saying in a statement:

“The safety of our patients, our crews, and our community remains our highest priority. We are grateful that no serious injuries occurred and deeply appreciate the swift, professional response of all first responders involved.”

Gibney confirmed that the newborn and the other patient were kept under medical observation as a precaution, while all three EMS staff members were treated for minor injuries and later released.

Investigators from the GSP are still piecing together the events that led to the crash. They are currently reviewing traffic-light data, dashcam footage, and witness statements to determine which vehicle entered the intersection first. At this time, speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors.

Local residents say this particular intersection has seen several accidents in recent years. “People speed through there all the time,” one resident said. “It’s a miracle no one was killed this morning.”

By mid-day, the wreckage was cleared and traffic flow restored, with backup EMS crews ensuring uninterrupted service across the county.

Albany Mayor Bo Dorough also praised first responders for their quick action:

“This could have been a tragedy. Thanks to the professionalism of our EMS teams and the coordinated efforts of police and fire departments, lives were protected today.”

The Georgia State Patrol is expected to release its preliminary report once the crash reconstruction is complete. For now, the focus remains on supporting those recovering.

“When the caregivers become the patients, it hits close to home,” Director Gibney added. “We’re thankful everyone is going to be okay.”
