For years, I had always believed that being a good neighbor meant giving people the benefit of the doubt.
If someone needed a cup of sugar, I gave it to them.
If their trash bin blew over in a storm, I brought it back.
If their children accidentally kicked a ball into my yard, I tossed it back without making a fuss.
But there is a difference between being kind and allowing someone to take advantage of you.
