When 24-year-old Alexis Gabe disappeared from Oakley, California, in January 2022, her family initially hoped she would return home.
Instead, her disappearance launched a months-long search that drew volunteers, investigators and communities across Northern California into the effort to find her.
What began as a missing-person case eventually became a homicide investigation, followed by the discovery of partial remains and the death of the man investigators had identified as the primary suspect.
Alexis Gabe Disappears
On January 27, 2022, Alexis’s family realized something was wrong when she failed to return home and stopped responding to calls and messages.
Her sister, who was quarantining with COVID-19 at the time, became increasingly concerned.
Alexis was described by those close to her as kind and family-oriented, and her disappearance quickly became a source of concern throughout the East Bay.
Friends, relatives and volunteers joined the search while investigators worked to establish her final known movements.
