Georgia Killing Case Puts Spotlight on a Public Figure

The death of Kesarija Abramidze, one of Georgia’s most recognizable transgender public figures, has become a major criminal case in Tbilisi and a painful moment for many who followed her life and career.

Georgian authorities say Abramidze, 37, was found dead in her apartment in the capital on September 18 after a violent incident. Police detained a 26-year-old man shortly afterward, and the case is now being handled as a serious homicide investigation.

Officials have said the suspect was taken into custody at the scene. Investigators believe the violence followed an argument between the two people inside the apartment, though a full timeline has not yet been released.

According to preliminary information from law enforcement, Abramidze suffered multiple stab wounds. A knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered and sent for forensic examination.
