Hospital Lockdown Near Detroit After Early Morning Gunfire

An early morning shooting at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital in Troy, Michigan, forced a lockdown Thursday and brought a large police response to the medical campus just north of Detroit.

The incident began at about 7:08 a.m., according to initial reports, when gunfire was reported in the hospital’s parking garage. Patients, visitors, and employees were told to shelter in place while law enforcement worked to secure the area.

What Police Say Happened

Authorities said the suspect was an employee of the hospital and that the person who was shot was also a staff member. The victim, identified in reports as a 25-year-old coworker, was shot twice in the arm.

Hospital staff quickly brought the injured employee to the emergency department for treatment. Officials said the victim was stabilized and remained in stable condition. He is expected to recover.
