A $100 Tip, a Takeout Bag, and an Envelope I Never Expected

What began as an ordinary stop for dinner turned into a night I could not easily forget. I had only meant to leave a generous tip for a waitress who looked like she had carried the weight of a long shift on her shoulders. I did not expect thanks beyond a quiet smile, and I certainly did not expect to find something in my takeout bag that clearly did not belong to me.

That restaurant had become part of my routine. After long workdays, it was the kind of place where I could sit down, eat something familiar, and take a short break before going home. Nothing about the evening felt unusual at first.

The waitress serving me was calm and polite, even though she looked exhausted. She moved from table to table, handled demanding customers, and kept working with the kind of professionalism many people in service jobs are expected to show no matter how hard the day has been.

When the bill arrived, I left a $100 tip. It was more than I usually left, but in that moment it felt right. She thanked me quietly, and I left with my food, assuming the evening was over.
