A major crash on one of Mexico’s busiest highways turned a routine travel day into a devastating emergency, leaving families grieving and authorities searching for answers.
The multi-vehicle collision happened on November 20, 2024, at kilometer 59 of the Mexico–Querétaro Highway, near the Huehuetoca exit in the State of Mexico. Officials said the crash involved several vehicles and a heavy trailer, forcing emergency crews to close lanes while rescuers worked at the scene.
According to preliminary information from the Secretaría de Seguridad del Estado de México, the trailer may have failed to stop in time as traffic slowed ahead. The impact reportedly triggered a chain reaction involving private vehicles and passenger buses.
State civil protection officials reported that at least 19 people died, while dozens more were injured. Those hurt in the crash were taken to hospitals in Cuautitlán and Huehuetoca, where medical teams activated emergency protocols to receive patients.
