Mother Faces Son’s Killer With Words That Stilled the Court

A Texas courtroom fell into a heavy silence as the family of Austin Metcalf confronted the teenager convicted of killing him. For Austin’s mother, Meghan Metcalf, the sentencing hearing was not just about a prison term. It was a chance to describe what life has become since her 17-year-old son was fatally stabbed at a high school track meet in Frisco.

Karmelo Anthony, 19, was found guilty of murder in connection with Austin’s death. On June 10, he was sentenced to 35 years in prison, closing the criminal case but leaving Austin’s family with a loss they said no court ruling could repair.

A Mother’s Statement in Court

During the sentencing hearing, Meghan Metcalf spoke directly about the everyday grief that now defines her life. According to court statements reported by CBS News, she described visiting Austin’s grave and speaking to him in conversations that can no longer be answered.

She told the court that ordinary parts of home life have become painful reminders. An empty room, an untouched bed, and the quiet spaces where her son should be are now part of her daily reality.
