A guided adventure jump from a disused bridge in Brazil has become the focus of a criminal investigation after a young woman died during what was meant to be a controlled thrill-seeking experience.
Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas died on June 13 at Ponte do Esqueleto, known as Skeleton Bridge, in Limeira, São Paulo state. Reports say she had purchased an adventure package that included a rope jump from the bridge, an activity that depends on strict equipment checks and trained supervision.
What investigators are now trying to determine is whether a basic safety step was missed before she was sent over the edge.
Witnesses Reported Immediate Concern After the Jump
According to reports, people gathered at the bridge saw staff preparing participants for the experience. Maria was reportedly wearing a helmet and appeared ready for the jump when she was carried toward the edge.
