A Mom’s Funny License Plate Put Her in a DMV Fight

For 15 years, Wendy Auger drove around New Hampshire with a license plate that made parents laugh before they even saw her face. The plate read PB4WEGO, a playful shorthand for the familiar road-trip warning: “pee before we go.”

To Auger, a mother of four from Rochester, it was harmless family humor. It was also practical advice, especially for anyone who has ever loaded kids into a car and hoped to avoid an early bathroom stop.

Then a letter from the New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles changed the mood. After more than a decade on the road, the state told her the vanity plate had to be surrendered.

The DMV Said the Plate Crossed a Line

According to the notice Auger received, the state considered the plate inappropriate because it referenced “sexual or excretory acts or functions.” That reasoning left her surprised, especially because the plate had been approved and used without issue since the mid-2000s.
