Pat Sajak has spent decades looking calm and quick-witted on Wheel of Fortune, but one unexpected medical emergency briefly took him far away from the studio and into a situation he later described as frightening and surreal.
The longtime television host recalled that the scare began during what should have been an ordinary walk with his daughter. At first, he felt abdominal discomfort. Then the pain intensified so quickly that continuing the walk was no longer possible.
What seemed like it might pass on its own soon required urgent medical attention. Once doctors evaluated him, they found that he had a blocked bowel, a condition that can become serious if it is not treated promptly.
A Routine Day Turned Into Emergency Care
After Sajak was admitted to the hospital, medical staff first tried to control his pain and stabilize him. The early medication did not bring enough relief, so doctors moved to stronger treatment as the situation escalated.
