A routine walk through a Cedar Falls park turned frightening for one young mother when both of her toddlers suddenly began showing signs of medical distress. Within minutes, she made a decision that local officials later credited with helping keep the situation under control: she carried the girls straight into the town’s central fire station for help.
The incident happened Tuesday afternoon, shortly after 4 p.m., according to the Cedar Falls Fire Department. Emma Lowell, 27, arrived in the station lobby with her two daughters in her arms and told firefighters that the children had begun coughing, rubbing their eyes, and appearing dizzy during a nearby family outing.
Firefighters said Lowell was visibly worried but able to explain what had happened clearly. Because the station was only about two blocks from the park, responders were able to begin checking the girls almost immediately.
A Sudden Reaction During a Park Walk
Officials said the family had been walking through a neighborhood park near the fire station when the girls started playing close to bushes along a walking path. The outing had been normal until both toddlers began reacting at nearly the same time.
