A deadly crash on BR-251 in Minas Gerais has left nine people dead and renewed painful questions about safety on one of the region’s most feared stretches of road.
The victims were traveling in a van carrying workers who were returning home to Ceará. According to the initial details, the vehicle was on the highway near kilometer 446 when it collided with an empty heavy-haul truck.
The impact forced the van off the road. In the rain and mud, with difficult terrain around the crash scene, emergency crews faced a hard rescue operation as they worked through the wreckage and tried to assist those who were injured.
A Difficult Rescue in Dangerous Conditions
Firefighters were called to the scene and had to reach victims trapped in twisted metal. SAMU teams also responded, working in the dark as they provided urgent care to the injured.
