JD Vance Faces Backlash Over Minneapolis ICE Shooting Comment

Vice President JD Vance is under fire online after posting a controversial comment regarding the recent fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. Many social media users have labeled Vance’s statement as insensitive, igniting a wave of criticism.

Minneapolis Shooting Sparks Outrage

On Saturday at around 9:05 a.m., Alex Pretti was shot and killed near Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis during an ICE enforcement operation. Video footage shows Pretti filming federal agents with his phone, being sprayed with pepper spray, and then tackled before the fatal shooting occurred. Officials have claimed Pretti was armed, though no public evidence has yet been presented.

Several figures from the Trump administration have publicly defended the ICE agent involved. White House senior adviser Stephen Miller referred to Pretti as an “assassin,” while others labeled him a “domestic terrorist.” Now, JD Vance is receiving significant backlash for his comments on social media.

Vance Criticized for Social Media Post

Following the incident, Vance shared a post on X recounting his recent trip to Minneapolis. Instead of directly addressing Pretti’s death, he highlighted an incident in which federal officers were reportedly “doxed” at a local restaurant.

He claimed that local authorities were failing to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement, contributing to chaos in the city. Vance wrote:

“When I was in Minneapolis, I heard a number of concerning stories. Near the top: A couple of off-duty ICE and CBP officers were going to dinner, were doxed, and the restaurant was mobbed. Local police reportedly did not respond, and their fellow federal agents had to assist them. This is a small example of the problems caused by local officials refusing to cooperate with immigration enforcement.”

He added that such chaos, in his view, allows tragedies like the Pretti shooting to occur while politicians focus on criticizing immigration enforcement.

Public Reaction: Anger and Condemnation

Many social media users responded with outrage, criticizing Vance for appearing more concerned about federal agents than the death of Pretti. Comments ranged from calling Vance a “disgrace” to labeling his statements as “vile” and “dishonest.”

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also weighed in, stating:

“You are defending the killing of ordinary Americans for exercising their Constitutional rights.”

The incident has reignited debates over ICE enforcement policies, public safety, and federal-local cooperation in Minneapolis.
