Richard M. Sherman, the beloved composer and lyricist behind some of the most iconic songs in film history, has died at the age of 95. He passed away today at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center due to an age-related illness, according to family sources.
Sherman, along with his brother Robert B. Sherman, formed one of the most successful songwriting duos in entertainment history. Together, they created timeless music that became deeply woven into popular culture, particularly through their work with The Walt Disney Company.
Among their most famous contributions are songs from the classic film Mary Poppins, including the unforgettable “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” as well as the globally recognized theme “It’s a Small World,” which continues to be enjoyed by millions at Disney parks around the world. Their work also extended to films like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and various Winnie the Pooh productions.
