On July 17, 2025, a school bus carrying children and staff overturned on a rural road near Cutcombe Hill in Exmoor, leaving one student dead and dozens injured.

The devastating incident shocked the local community and triggered a massive emergency response as rescue crews raced against time to reach the overturned vehicle.

What began as a normal journey home before summer break quickly became one of the most painful days the community has faced in years.

The Bus Reportedly Slid Down an Embankment

According to emergency officials, the crash occurred on the A396 near Cutcombe Hill, a narrow and winding rural road in the Exmoor countryside.

Reports indicate the bus lost control before sliding approximately 20 feet down an embankment and overturning onto its roof.

The vehicle was reportedly carrying between 60 and 70 people, including students and school staff members returning from a school outing.

Because of the remote location and difficult terrain, emergency access became especially challenging for first responders.
