The morning everything started falling apart began with a phone call I had feared for weeks.
At 34 weeks pregnant, exhausted, and overwhelmed by mounting bills, I listened in silence as the bank confirmed foreclosure proceedings were officially beginning. Papers covered my kitchen table, overdue notices stacked higher every day, and the home I fought so hard to keep suddenly felt impossible to save.
I remember sitting there completely numb, wondering how I would protect my unborn baby when I could barely hold my own life together.
An Unexpected Moment Outside Changed My Entire Day
Needing air more than answers, I stepped outside and noticed my elderly neighbor, Mrs. Higgins, struggling to push an old lawn mower through the summer heat.
She was 82 years old, fiercely independent, and clearly exhausted.
Part of me wanted to walk back inside and focus on my own crisis. But something about seeing her alone out there made that impossible.
