Independent Autopsy in Renee Good Shooting Case Reveals New and Alarming Details

The family of Renee Good has released findings from an independent autopsy, shedding new light on the circumstances surrounding her death and intensifying calls for transparency in a case that has already sparked national debate.

Good, a 37-year-old mother from Minneapolis, Minnesota, was fatally shot on January 7 by ICE officer Jonathan Ross, just minutes after she dropped her six-year-old child off at school. In the aftermath, her family launched a private investigation and hired outside legal experts to conduct an independent medical and legal analysis.

Conflicting Narratives and Public Outcry

The shooting immediately drew widespread attention, prompting protests and heated discussion across social media and political circles. Early statements from the Department of Homeland Security claimed that Good posed a serious threat to officers, alleging she attempted to strike ICE agents with her vehicle.

However, later video evidence appeared to contradict those claims, raising serious questions about the official narrative and fueling renewed concern over use-of-force decisions involving federal officers.

Civil rights attorneys from Romanucci and Blandin, now representing Good’s family, told People Magazine that Renee and her partner, Rebecca, had stopped their car after noticing ICE agents in the area. According to the firm, the couple intended to observe the situation and support neighbors during the encounter.

As the interaction escalated, Good attempted to leave the scene. It was at that moment, according to investigators, that Officer Ross fired multiple shots at close range.

Autopsy Confirms Three Gunshot Wounds

An earlier report from the Minneapolis Police and Fire Department stated that Good was shot three times. The newly completed independent autopsy confirms that account and provides additional medical detail.

The forensic pathologist identified three distinct gunshot wound paths:

  • One bullet entered Good’s left forearm
  • Another struck her right breast
  • A third entered the left side of her head

The head wound was determined to be fatal, with the bullet passing through and exiting on the right side of her head.

The family authorized the release of these findings, saying public access to the facts is essential for accountability.

Attorneys Push for Transparency and Justice

Romanucci and Blandin—the same law firm known for representing the family of George Floyd—said the evidence gathered so far supports continued legal action and further investigation.

Lead attorney Antonio M. Romanucci emphasized that available video footage is critical when examined under accepted standards of lawful policing and totality-of-circumstances analysis.

“Our legal team will continue to collect evidence and advocate aggressively for Renee Good’s life and her family,” Romanucci said. “Transparency and accountability are essential in a tragedy of this magnitude.”

Broader Implications and Ongoing Investigation

The case remains under active review, with multiple agencies examining the events of January 7. Legal analysts say the outcome could have far-reaching implications for federal law enforcement oversight, civil rights protections, and public trust.

As investigations continue, Good’s family has reiterated their call for clear answers and an unbiased legal process.

Renee Good is remembered as a devoted parent and community member whose death has become a focal point in a larger national conversation about policing, accountability, and justice.
