Tensions over Greenland are escalating—and the U.S. president has just issued a striking new warning.
Despite a poll showing that 85% of Greenlanders don’t want to join the U.S., President Trump appears determined to assert control over the Arctic territory. On Monday morning, he took to Truth Social to slam Denmark, accusing the country of failing to address what he calls the “Russian threat” on the island. His post was blunt:
“Unfortunately, Denmark has been unable to do anything about it. Now it is time, and it will be done!!!”
Trump claimed NATO has been urging Denmark for 20 years to remove the Russian presence from Greenland and hinted he might take matters into his own hands, adding, “Until Greenland becomes American.”

The statement came just a day after he announced a 10% tariff on goods from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the U.K., the Netherlands, and Finland—countries he says are blocking U.S. control of Greenland. Starting February 1, these tariffs are set to remain in place “until Greenland becomes American.”
