Three American service members were killed in action amid the ongoing conflict with Iran, U.S. military officials confirmed one day after the United States and Israel launched strikes against the country and Iran quickly hit back.
Five others were seriously wounded as part of the operation, according to U.S. Central Command. The service members were not immediately identified.
Meanwhile, Israel and Iran continued to trade attacks on Sunday after Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the joint strikes with the United States. Explosions were heard in Tehran into the afternoon.
Iran has vowed to seek revenge for Khamenei’s killing and hit an American Navy base in Bahrain on Saturday, but no U.S. service members were wounded or killed. Bahrain’s international airport and Dubai’s luxury hotel Burj Al Arab were both damaged in attacks by Iran. Loud blasts were also heard in the Qatari capital of Doha, and Oman was hit for the first time.
