I knew something was wrong the moment I hugged my husband.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It wasn’t ordinary body odor or the result of forgetting deodorant. It was sharp, sour, and strangely pungent\u2014almost chemical. And somehow, it seemed to get stronger every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Soon, even the laundry room had developed an unmistakable smell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I tried everything I could think of. I asked him to shower more often, change his detergent, drink more water, and pay closer attention to his clothes. Nothing made a difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At some point, he had wiped his hands on a kitchen towel before tossing it into the laundry basket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Somehow, the garlic ended up trapped inside a fold of his clothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And there it stayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Day after day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Warm, damp, and pressed against fabric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n By the time it was discovered, that innocent little piece of garlic had become an extremely effective odor generator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n My husband stared at it in complete disbelief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis was in my underwear?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n I nodded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neither of us could keep a straight face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The doctor explained that there was no mysterious medical diagnosis behind the odor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The smell had a much simpler explanation: a strongly scented food item had become trapped in clothing and remained there for days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Heat, moisture, and time had done the rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In other words, my husband hadn’t developed some strange disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He had simply been carrying around a forgotten piece of garlic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The relief was enormous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So was the embarrassment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n By the time we left the clinic, even the nurses seemed to know what had happened.
