Udo Kier \u2014 born Udo Kierspe in 1944 \u2014 survived the rubble of wartime Germany, rescued as an infant alongside his mother. His early years were marked by poverty and hardship, something he never sugar-coated.

One of the most defining moments in his life happened by sheer chance: he sat next to director Paul Morrissey on a flight. That conversation led to Flesh for Frankenstein<\/em> and Blood for Dracula<\/em>, produced by Andy Warhol, cementing Kier\u2019s cult-film legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He had the looks and magnetism to become a mainstream teen idol, but he was far more drawn to strange, daring, and art-house roles. And audiences loved him for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
