Tensions over Greenland are escalating\u2014and the U.S. president has just issued a striking new warning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite a poll showing that 85% of Greenlanders don\u2019t want to join the U.S., President Trump appears determined to assert control over the Arctic territory. On Monday morning, he took to Truth Social to slam Denmark, accusing the country of failing to address what he calls the \u201cRussian threat\u201d on the island. His post was blunt:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUnfortunately, Denmark has been unable to do anything about it. Now it is time, and it will be done!!!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump claimed NATO has been urging Denmark for 20 years to remove the Russian presence from Greenland and hinted he might take matters into his own hands, adding, \u201cUntil Greenland becomes American.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement came just a day after he announced a 10% tariff on goods from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the U.K., the Netherlands, and Finland\u2014countries he says are blocking U.S. control of Greenland. Starting February 1, these tariffs are set to remain in place \u201cuntil Greenland becomes American.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement triggered swift backlash across Europe. EU ambassadors held emergency talks, and EU Council President Antonio Costa warned that the tariffs would damage transatlantic relations and violate the EU-U.S. trade agreement. Costa emphasized that the EU is \u201cready to defend ourselves against any form of coercion,\u201d with a special summit scheduled for Thursday to address the Greenland situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the U.K., the Netherlands, and Finland released a joint statement stressing that troops deployed to Greenland under Operation Arctic Endurance \u201cpose no threat to anyone.\u201d Danish Foreign Minister Lars L\u00f8kke Rasmussen confirmed ongoing dialogue but said, \u201cWe will not give up\u2026 So we will stay on track\u2014unless the U.S. decides differently.\u201d Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide added:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will not allow ourselves to be put under pressure, and those types of threats are unacceptable between close allies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The controversy has sparked one of the strongest European rebukes since Trump returned to the White House. Republican Rep. Michael McCaul also weighed in, warning that any military action in Greenland could put the U.S. in direct conflict with NATO allies and potentially dismantle the alliance. On This Week, McCaul explained:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe president has full military access to Greenland to protect us from any threat. If he wants to purchase Greenland, that\u2019s one thing. But a military invasion would turn NATO\u2019s Article 5 on its head and risk a war with our allies. It could end NATO as we know it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Europe uniting against threats and U.S. rhetoric intensifying, the Greenland standoff is quickly becoming a global flashpoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
