Alongside the post were two photos \u2014 the first picture she ever took of her daughter and the final image Aunamarie captured on the day of the accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou should have been 13 today,\u201d Bratcher wrote. \u201cThis was the last photo you took before getting on the bus that morning. I miss you beyond words, and nothing will ever heal the pain of losing you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She continued by expressing her longing for one more hug and her belief that they will be reunited again someday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fatal Pedestrian Crash Occurred During School Dismissal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The deadly pedestrian accident happened on March 31, 2025, as students were leaving Central Square Middle School. Aunamarie was attempting to cross U.S. Route 11, a high-traffic roadway that runs directly in front of the school, when she was struck by a passing vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to New York State Police, the vehicle was driven by 22-year-old Tyler Anthony Hanlon. Troopers arrived at the scene around 2:44 p.m., and Aunamarie was rushed to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse with life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite emergency medical treatment, she passed away on April 3. Investigators confirmed the driver remained at the scene, cooperated with authorities, and showed no signs of impairment. The family also chose to donate her organs, a decision that may save or improve the lives of others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Safety Concerns Raised Over Busy School Zone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The incident has reignited long-standing concerns about traffic enforcement and pedestrian safety along Route 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Susan Bonnet, who runs a nearby business across from the school, said speeding has been an ongoing problem in the area. Speaking to Spectrum News 1, she emphasized the need for slower traffic and stronger safety measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a school zone,\u201d Bonnet said. \u201cChildren cross here every day, and drivers need to be more aware.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bonnet witnessed the crash and remained with Aunamarie until emergency crews arrived, offering comfort during the critical moments following the accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis kind of tragedy changes lives forever,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s something no family should ever have to endure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Father Shares Heartbreak Months Later<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On Thanksgiving \u2014 his first without his daughter \u2014 Aunamarie\u2019s father, Paul Mahnken, posted a heartfelt message online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI miss you more than I can put into words,\u201d he wrote. \u201cNothing feels the same without you here. I hope you\u2019re at peace, and I carry you with me every day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">School District Responds as Investigation Continues<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Central Square School District Superintendent Thomas J. Colabufo confirmed that several students witnessed the incident and that counseling services were provided to students and staff affected by the loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities say the investigation remains open.
