On May 16, 2025, Ashley Bratcher marked what would have been her daughter Aunamarie Mankhen\u2019s 13th birthday with a moving message shared on social media. Alongside the post were two photos \u2014 the first picture she ever took of her daughter and the final image Aunamarie captured on the day of the accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou should have been 13 today,\u201d Bratcher wrote. \u201cThis was the last photo you took before getting on the bus that morning. I miss you beyond words, and nothing will ever heal the pain of losing you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She continued by expressing her longing for one more hug and her belief that they will be reunited again someday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The deadly pedestrian accident happened on March 31, 2025, as students were leaving Central Square Middle School. Aunamarie was attempting to cross U.S. Route 11, a high-traffic roadway that runs directly in front of the school, when she was struck by a passing vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to New York State Police, the vehicle was driven by 22-year-old Tyler Anthony Hanlon. Troopers arrived at the scene around 2:44 p.m., and Aunamarie was rushed to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse with life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Thanksgiving \u2014 his first without his daughter \u2014 Aunamarie\u2019s father, Paul Mahnken, posted a heartfelt message online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI miss you more than I can put into words,\u201d he wrote. \u201cNothing feels the same without you here. I hope you\u2019re at peace, and I carry you with me every day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Central Square School District Superintendent Thomas J. Colabufo confirmed that several students witnessed the incident and that counseling services were provided to students and staff affected by the loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
