Gregory Zecca, the stepson of reality television star Dog the Bounty Hunter, has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of his 13-year-old son, Anthony, according to Florida law enforcement officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident occurred on July 19, 2025, at an apartment in Florida. At the time, authorities initially described the shooting as accidental. However, following an extensive investigation, Zecca has now been formally charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child involving a firearm, as well as using a firearm while under the influence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Investigators allege that Zecca, 39, had been consuming alcohol throughout the day and later ingested marijuana while attending a UFC watch party with his son at a friend\u2019s residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to law enforcement findings, Zecca \u2014 the son of Francie Chapman, who is married to Dog the Bounty Hunter \u2014 allegedly handled a firearm recklessly in close proximity to the child. Witness accounts indicate he repeatedly drew the weapon from his waistband and dry-fired it, believing the gun was unloaded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Authorities later determined that the firearm\u2019s magazine had been reinserted. At some point afterward, a single round was discharged, fatally striking Anthony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk described the incident as a tragic and preventable loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis was a heartbreaking and preventable tragedy,\u201d Rambosk said in a statement. \u201cOur detectives conducted a comprehensive investigation, reviewing witness statements, forensic evidence, search warrants, and subpoenas to fully understand what occurred in this extremely difficult case.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When first responders arrived, they reportedly detected the smell of alcohol on Zecca\u2019s breath. Investigators subsequently obtained medical records and conducted a blood draw as part of the criminal investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A toxicology expert later estimated Zecca\u2019s blood alcohol concentration at approximately 0.116 at the time of the shooting. Florida\u2019s legal driving limit is 0.08, and authorities concluded that Zecca was impaired by alcohol during the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By the time emergency personnel reached the scene, Anthony had already suffered severe blood loss. He later died from his injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis case highlights the devastating consequences that can result from combining firearms with alcohol or drugs,\u201d Sheriff Rambosk added. \u201cOur thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragic loss.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the shooting, Zecca was placed on a psychiatric hold. A representative for the family stated at the time that he was being monitored closely due to concerns for his mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Sheriff\u2019s Office, Zecca was taken into custody on an active warrant and now faces serious felony charges. If convicted, he could receive a life sentence under Florida law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The case continues to draw public attention due to its connection to a high-profile television family, while also raising renewed concerns around firearm safety, substance use, and child protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
