For many people, a first sexual experience may be awkward, emotional, or simply different from what they imagined.
For one young woman, however, it became a frightening medical emergency that she never expected.
She later shared her experience as a reminder of the importance of communication, consent, feeling physically and emotionally ready, and understanding when unexpected symptoms require medical attention.
Her story also highlighted something she felt was missing from her own education: honest information about sexual health.
