I Found Something Bright Red in My Garden and Paused-

At first, the red shape felt like an intrusion, as if something foreign had invaded a place I thought I knew. It was almost too vivid, too polished, sitting there on the dark soil like a warning light. My imagination rushed to fill in the blanks: poison, parasite, disease, contamination. The garden around it suddenly felt less like a sanctuary and more like a crime scene waiting to be explained. I realized, uncomfortably, that I was far more afraid of not knowing than of the thing itself.

Only when I allowed myself to look closely did the panic begin to loosen. The smooth surface, the rounded form, the way it emerged from the soil all pointed to something simple: a fungus, thriving in damp, welcoming earth. Nothing had actually changed except my understanding. The garden hadn’t betrayed me. My own mind had. What began as fear quietly transformed into curiosity, and that strange red growth became a reminder that the unknown is often only frightening until we dare to really see it.
