I Opened My Pizza Box and Saw Strange Bubbles Under the Cheese—What Were They?

It was supposed to be an ordinary evening.

I had ordered a pizza, expecting the usual combination of warm crust, tomato sauce, melted cheese, and toppings. When the delivery arrived, I carried the box into the kitchen and opened it without giving the meal a second thought.

Then I noticed the cheese.

Several large, rounded bubbles had formed across the surface. They were unusually smooth and inflated, almost as though something underneath the cheese was pushing upward.

For a moment, I simply stared at the pizza.
