Home & Living That plastic bowl sitting in your kitchen cabinet may look completely harmless. You may have used it for years to store leftovers, serve meals, or heat food—but experts warn that some types of plastic tableware require more care than others.

If there is no clear indication that a plastic bowl is suitable for microwave use, it is better to transfer the food to a microwave-safe glass or ceramic container before heating it.
Melamine bowls are particularly important to watch.
