A new chapter began for Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance this summer when the couple welcomed their fourth child, a baby boy named Alec Neel Vance.
The Vances announced the birth on July 19, 2026, sharing that Usha and the newborn were doing well and that their three older children were excited to meet their new little brother.
Alec’s arrival was notable beyond the family itself. His birth marked the first time in more than 150 years that a sitting U.S. vice president had a child while serving in office. The previous known example was the birth of Schuyler Colfax III in 1870, during the vice presidency of Schuyler Colfax.
Alec joined siblings Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel, bringing the Vance household to six family members. The couple also thanked medical teams at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit following the birth.
