Community in Shock After Unexpected Turn in Teen Brothers’ Case

On the warm evening of August 17, 2012, 28-year-old Kevin Bennett was resting in a quiet alley off County Road, between shifts at work. What began as a moment of solitude would soon become a turning point for an entire community.

That night, Kevin was confronted by two teenage brothers, Connor and Brandon Doran, who—under the influence of older peers—made choices that would alter countless lives. An associate, Simon Evans, became directly involved, while Brandon acted as lookout. The encounter left Kevin badly injured, but in an incredible show of determination, he managed to reach a nearby convenience store, where help was called.
Kevin was rushed to Memorial General Hospital, where medical teams worked tirelessly to treat his injuries. Sadly, on August 23, 2012, he passed away due to complications, leaving behind loved ones and a community in shock.

A Troubled Family History
In the weeks that followed, details emerged about the Doran family’s long-standing troubles. The brothers’ eldest sibling, Ryan Doran, was already facing charges in a separate, unrelated case that same summer. Investigators noted concerning patterns of behavior across the family.
