The Memory I Had Almost Forgotten
Max’s smile disappeared the moment he looked inside the box.
For a few seconds, he didn’t say anything. He simply stared at what Edward had brought, his fingers gripping the edge of the cardboard as if he needed something to hold on to.
The guests closest to us leaned forward, trying to see what was inside.
“What is this supposed to be?” Max finally asked.
Edward remained calm.
“Something I thought you should see.”
I stepped closer.
Inside the box was an enormous pair of trousers, folded carefully over an old photograph and a small envelope.
