One morning, after I’d already asked my sister to stop walking through our kitchen in nothing but a towel, she asked my husband to reach the coffee filters down for her.
Andrew looked at the cabinet.
Then he looked at Kayla.
Then he picked up his coffee mug and walked out of the room without saying a single word.
Kayla stood there watching him go, her mouth slightly open.
“What’s his problem?” she said.
I reached past her and shut the cabinet door she’d left hanging open.
She laughed. Like I’d made a joke. Like this was funny
