U.S. Navy Fires on Iranian Vessel After Dangerous Approach Near Aircraft Carrier

Tensions between U.S. and Iranian forces in the Arabian Sea have produced several tense encounters in 2026, including an incident in which a U.S. Navy vessel fired on an Iranian ship that officials said had approached the USS Abraham Lincoln too closely.

According to U.S. officials cited by CBS News, the Iranian vessel came within a dangerous distance of the American aircraft carrier. A U.S. Navy ship attempted to respond using its 5-inch deck gun.

The incident was part of a broader period of heightened military activity involving American and Iranian forces in the region.

Earlier in February, U.S. forces also shot down an Iranian Shahed-139 drone after it continued approaching the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea. U.S. Central Command said the drone continued toward the carrier despite measures intended to de-escalate the situation.
