The death of 20-year-old Mariana Gómez has left her community grieving after she was caught in a violent shooting while simply going about her day.
According to the account provided, Mariana was walking along Fifth Street on a Monday afternoon while distributing resumes and looking for work. She was reportedly focused on building a better future and helping her family when a confrontation involving a local merchant suddenly turned violent.
Around 5:30 p.m., gunfire broke out in the busy area. The merchant, described as a 45-year-old man, was fatally wounded. Mariana was also struck during the shooting and was taken to a nearby medical center, where she later died from her injuries.
Her death has prompted sorrow among relatives, neighbors, and others who knew of her. The tragedy is particularly painful because she was reportedly not involved in the confrontation and was simply passing through the area.
