Seventh Grader Hailed as Hero for Saving Family in House Fire

In Petersburg, Virginia, a 12-year-old seventh grader, Romir Parker, is being celebrated as a hometown hero after risking his safety to save his family from a rapidly spreading house fire. Four lives were spared that day, thanks to Romir’s quick thinking and courage.

The fire occurred on an ordinary afternoon in early June. Romir was in his bedroom when he heard unusual noises coming from downstairs. Investigating, he encountered thick, black smoke and realized his grandmother was trapped inside. Without hesitation, Romir braved the smoke to locate and guide her to safety — just minutes before the Petersburg Fire Department arrived.

The fire was quickly contained, but officials noted that Romir’s actions prevented what could have been a tragic outcome. Petersburg Fire Chief Wayne Hoover praised the boy’s bravery: “Even if our crew had arrived within four minutes, Romir saved his family’s lives.”

In recognition of his courage, the city issued a proclamation honoring Romir’s “bravery and presence of mind, well beyond his years,” and the fire department named him an honorary firefighter. Chief Hoover added that when Romir turns 18, he will have the opportunity to join the fire brigade if he wishes.

Romir’s quick thinking and heroism serve as an inspiring reminder of courage and responsibility in the face of danger.
