Maria first met David at a wedding when she was 25 years old. He was the kind of man who seemed to step straight out of a romance movie—confident, attentive, and always saying the right things. He showed up with flowers almost daily, texted nonstop, and called her so often it felt like he couldn’t go a single hour without hearing her voice.
Her friends warned her it was moving too quickly.
Maria didn’t see it that way. To her, it felt like passion.
Only four months later, they were married.
At first, everything seemed perfect. Then, little things began to shift—quietly, almost invisibly.
David mentioned that one of her dresses was “a bit too much.” He didn’t demand she change, he just made a comment. Maria changed it anyway. He later said he didn’t like the way her friend Marcus looked at her. Maria stopped talking to Marcus, thinking it was a small sacrifice for peace.
