Hollywood Mourns Lory Patrick, Beloved TV Star of the Golden Era
Hollywood is saying goodbye to one of television’s cherished icons. Lory Patrick, the actress and former model known for her captivating presence on classic TV, passed away peacefully on January 26 at her Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, home, surrounded by family. She was 92 years old.
Born Loretta Basham on April 8, 1933, in Beckley, West Virginia, she launched her career in modeling, working in Detroit and New York. Early on, a producer reportedly told her that models rarely succeeded in acting—but instead of discouraging her, it fueled her determination to pursue her dreams in Hollywood.
Her persistence quickly paid off. By the early 1960s, she had signed with Universal Studios and made her first TV appearance within days on The Loretta Young Show. She gained wider recognition as schoolteacher Tina Swenson in the final season of NBC’s Western Tales of Wells Fargo, starring alongside Dale Robertson.
Throughout the 1960s, Lory became a familiar face on television, appearing in hits like Bonanza, Wagon Train, Dr. Kildare, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, and The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis. She also starred in films such as Surf Party and the comedy How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, amassing more than 70 TV and film credits over her career.
