I Thought the Bear Would Run — What It Did Instead Surprised Me

While driving along a forest road, I noticed a bear tangled in a discarded net, struggling to free itself. The animal was clearly distressed, shifting its weight and shaking its powerful body as it tried to pull away from the tight strands wrapped around its paws.

After carefully helping remove the remaining pieces of the net from a safe distance, the bear stepped back and paused. It shook itself once more, as if testing whether the restraint was truly gone. Every movement felt deliberate, as though the animal needed a moment to regain its sense of control after being trapped.

My heart was racing. I felt relief that the bear was no longer entangled, mixed with awe at its size and presence. At the same time, I was very aware of the need to remain still and respectful. Encounters with wildlife can be unpredictable, and safety—for both people and animals—always comes first.
