A case in St. Cloud is drawing attention to the importance of safety and oversight in home-based healthcare, especially for families caring for loved ones who are unable to speak or defend themselves.
Authorities say a 24-year-old home health nurse has been arrested after investigators reviewed home surveillance footage connected to the care of an 18-year-old woman with disabilities. According to police, the young woman is non-verbal and has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
The case came to light after the victim’s mother noticed unexplained marks on her daughter’s face and became concerned about her wellbeing. Unable to receive verbal communication from her daughter, the mother reviewed footage from security cameras inside the home and contacted law enforcement.
