For more than thirty years, friends often joked that Fred and Linda’s marriage was built on playful debates. Fred was practical and careful with money. He believed coats were for warmth, cars were for getting from point A to point B, and savings were meant for emergencies.
Linda saw life a little differently.
To her, life was meant to be enjoyed in the moment. If there was rain, she believed you might as well face it with style—preferably with something beautiful to wear and somewhere exciting to go.
Their relationship became a charming balance of opposites. Fred would promise things “someday,” while Linda would happily remind him of those promises whenever she could. Those lighthearted disagreements became part of their everyday life.
So when Fred passed away unexpectedly, the silence he left behind felt overwhelming.
The house that once echoed with the evening news and the sound of tools in the garage suddenly felt far too quiet. Linda missed him deeply, but she also knew something important about the man she loved: Fred never liked unnecessary gloom. Humor had always been their shared language.
After the funeral and cremation, Linda brought his urn home and placed it carefully on the mantel.
A few weeks later, on a rainy evening, she poured herself a glass of wine, lit a candle, and placed the urn on the dining table across from her seat.
