Erika Kirk, widow of the late activist Charlie Kirk, has been named to the U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors, a key advisory group overseeing everything from curriculum and discipline to finances and morale at the academy. The White House has praised the appointment, calling her “the perfect choice” to continue her late husband’s legacy, but social media reactions are mixed—and in some cases sharply critical.
Filling Her Husband’s Seat
Charlie Kirk, who tragically passed away in September while speaking at Utah Valley University, previously held the same board seat. President Donald Trump appointed Erika Kirk, 37, as one of his five representatives on the 16-member board, with one seat still unfilled.
White House spokesperson Olivia Wales said in a statement:
“Charlie Kirk served proudly on the Board, inspiring not only the next generation of servicemembers, but millions around the world with his bold Christian faith, defense of the truth, and deep love of country. Erika Kirk will continue his legacy and be a fearless advocate for the most elite airpower force in the history of the world.”
Rep. August Pfluger (R-Texas), chair of the board, echoed the sentiment, noting that Erika is “the right person to fill Charlie’s place and continue his work of inspiring the next generation of service members.”
