A devastating accident occurred late last night at New York’s LaGuardia Airport involving an Air Canada Express flight. Officials have now released new details about the incident, which has left the aviation community and travelers reeling.

What Happened

The Bombardier CRJ-900, operating as Jazz Aviation Flight 8646 from Montreal to New York, collided with a Port Authority fire truck shortly after landing on Runway 4. The aircraft carried 76 passengers at the time. Tragically, both the pilot and co-pilot lost their lives in the crash.

The truck involved was reportedly responding to a separate incident at the airport when the collision occurred at approximately 24 miles per hour, according to FlightRadar24. Two Port Authority personnel—a sergeant and an officer—were injured and are currently hospitalized with broken limbs, but officials report their condition as stable.

Immediate Aftermath

Videos circulating online show the plane’s cockpit tilted upward and visible damage to the underside of its forward fuselage. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that LaGuardia Airport will remain closed at least until Monday, 2 p.m., while the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has dispatched a team to investigate the accident.
