It was supposed to be a peaceful morning by the lake.
The water was still, the air was calm, and everything felt quiet enough to hear the smallest sounds—leaves shifting, distant birds calling, and footsteps on soft ground. A parent and child walked slowly along the shoreline, enjoying the simplicity of the moment.
Then, without warning, the child stopped.
A sharp gasp broke the calm.
Near the edge of the path, something small and feathered rested on the ground. From a distance, it looked like a tiny bird had simply fallen and never gotten back up. Its shape was intact enough to make the scene feel confusing, even unsettling.
