Seven years ago, Nora’s life changed in a way no child should ever have to face.

Nora and I survived.

My husband did not come back.

Rescue teams searched for him for days, but they never found his body. Eventually, authorities declared him legally dead. From that moment on, our lives became divided into two parts: before the accident and after it.

Nora lost her sight that night.

I lost the man I loved.

Then Scout came into her life.

Scout was her guide dog, but he became much more than that. He was her confidence, her protector, and her closest companion. He helped her move through the world with courage. He gave her back a piece of freedom the accident had taken away.

So when graduation day arrived, Nora had only one request.

She wanted Scout beside her when she crossed the stage.

I could not say no.

Watching her walk across that stage with Scout calmly guiding her was one of the proudest moments of my life. The crowd applauded, Nora smiled, and for the first time in a long time, the pain of the past felt a little lighter.
